RE1 Public Recreation

The RE1 Public Recreation zone applies to public open space areas and land used for recreational activities such as sports and recreation fields, showgrounds and corridors. This zone can be found in our main towns of Boorowa, Harden, Murrumburrah and Young, as well as our smaller villages including Jugiong, Wombat and Murringo.
Hilltops 2040 Local Strategic Planning Statement (LSPS) and Recreational Land Use
Within Hilltops towns and villages, open space and recreation areas play a diverse and significant role in quality of life, social interaction as well as community health and well-being. High quality active and passive open space and recreation areas can be found in all Hilltops towns and villages and sustaining them is essential to achieving the desired lifestyle, amenity and recreational opportunities.
Hilltops 2040 prioritises the enhancement and protection of walkable, connected and accessible open spaces and facilities in the towns of Boorowa, Young and Harden- Murrumburrah over time.
Purpose and Zone Objectives
The purpose of the zone is to provide a range of recreational settings and compatible land uses while protecting and enhancing the natural environment for recreational purposes. In the Draft Hilltops LEP the RE1 zone objectives are
- To enable land to be used for public open space or recreational purposes.
- To provide a range of recreational settings and activities and compatible land uses.
- To protect and enhance the natural environment for recreational purposes.
- To maintain areas of high conservation value vegetation.
- To sustain public access and connectivity.
Where and what is zoned RE1?
RE1 public recreation areas include sports and recreation fields, showgrounds and corridors in Young, Boorowa, Harden-Murrumburrah and some villages such as Jugiong.

What is changing in RE1 Public Recreation Zone?
This zone is currently used in Young, Boorowa, and Harden LEPs. It is intended to continue its use in the new, consolidated Hilltops LEP.
